Plumbsan (Pty) Ltd was properly incorporated as a trading company during July 1999 and started trading during August of the same year. The Managing Director, Thinus van Niekerk, is at all times ably assisted by a board of directors consisting of four executive directors, including himself. Between them they have an extensive background in retailing, gained in part from a combined total of fifty years experience in the plumbing and sanitary ware retail market. Plumbsan stock high quality plumbing requisites and sanitary ware supplied by local and international plumbing manufacturers. The company consists of the following divisions namely sales, buying and inventory, operations and an administration division. There are four counter salesmen, which control the sales at the counter as well as the showroom. One person is responsible for the developer / contracting market for corporate sales. The senior buyer of the company is also a director and is in charge of the total stock purchases and control of the company. Plumbsan operates out of one location which incorporates all divisions of the business. The business is located in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria in an area which is frequented by visitors to other shops in the complex and there is no shortage of feet. It is also very well situated with regard to parking for our customers as ample parking is provided in front of the business. The company also employs three drivers who delivery products to customers in order to facilitate a 24-hour turn around. Plumbsan has achieved an excellent reputation as a high quality supplier of plumbing and sanitary ware. We stock a comprehensive range of plumbing product that caters for the needs of the largest contractor to that of the general homeowner. Products are supplied for, amongst others, individual to mass housing, alterations / additions. Renovations of any magnitude, hospitals and clinics, schools and maintenance for Industry and Government. New products were identified such as extending our product range to include a premium range of enhanced sanitary ware and also to stock replacement plumbing requisites that would fit well with our existing customer base. Instead of just supplying plumbing equipment and sanitary ware, Plumbsan will look to supply its customers with a comprehensive range of sanitary lifestyle goods and services in the future. The aspect of real ownership has had a tremendous impact on the performance of the company. In a true empowerment exercise, all permanent staff at time of inception of the company, now own shares in the business. Not surprising is the fact that the company is working well, with participative – type management playing a vital role. Both customers and suppliers are an integral part of the success of Plumbsan.
