Established in 2009 by Emmy Naude as an agency for a company based in Durban, the Ultra-dor team used simply to take the measurements for customer premises and then order the security gate or door or burglar bars to be made to specifications in Durban. Emmy quickly realised that this process gave her no control over the cost of materials and that shipping the finished product from Durban was adding unnecessary cost. Her customers were paying over the odds for basic security. By sourcing and manufacturing locally and, specifically, by pricing her product per component, she was able to come in at least 20% under her competitors and still deliver a high quality product. The business has never looked back and today supplies a broad range of customers – from members of the public to architects, quantity surveyors, and construction project managers – in East London and surrounding areas. Because it manufactures locally, Ultra-dor can also customise its products to suit very specific usage and design needs while still meeting the usual expectations of, for instance, slam-lock, expandable security doors. All products are made of powder-coated aluminium and are therefore corrosion resistant.
