Hydro Doors & Gates

In 1973 Hydros first product was pioneered in Florida, Johannesburg by John Lambert and Richard Wood utilising the mains water pressure system to develop the earliest version of a swing gate motor. With this system devised and marketed, this became the inspiration for the name HYDRO, being the Greek word for water. Thus Hydro Doors & Gates was born. While the hydro-gate automation was being produced and marketed, it became apparent that there was a need in the domestic door and gate area for an electronic system. This led to the design and development of a door operator, which was to become known as `DIGIDOOR`. This unique machine was launched in 1984 and won the Shell Design Awards from the Design Institute for `good product design` in 1985. Digidoor was an immediate success and the company grew from strength-to-strength, in the following years, capturing the lion`s share of the door automation market. The success that the company has enjoyed can be ascribed to the fact that this product is locally developed and produced. Quality installation, back up and service together with our commitment to continuing innovative development has reinforced our market share. Following the success of Digidoor in the Shell Design Awards in 1985, work was begun on redesigning the Digidoor operator in 1993 to take advantage of increased production volumes stimulated by market demand, and justified by the implementation of superior product methods (plastic injection moulding and press tooling) which improved quality still further without increasing the cost to the consumer. The new "DIGIDOOR II" won our second award from the Design Institute in 1994, this time as "an example of good industrial design". Hydro Doors has an established head office, as well as a factory, R&D Department and branch facilities throughout South Africa. The head office at Stormill is responsible for administration, distribution, sales and marketing. A separate factory located in Robertville serves as the Pressings and Electronics Factory. Finally a nationwide branch network with sales outlets located on East and West Rand (in Johannesburg)and in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and our newest branch being Nelspruit. These secure us a well-serviced market throughout South Africa. Being a South African manufacturing company we are able to offer the after sales service, back-up and availability of product spares and service. The company also actively pursues exports into the rest of Africa. The team at Hydro Doors has a collective 80 years of design and manufacturing experience for prospective clients to draw from. To further grow the company, export markets are being investigated and established. This will afford opportunities to our staff both in production, marketing and management to further develop their skills and abilities. Technical Support Being a South African manufacturing company we are able to offer the after sales service, back-up and availability of product spares and service maintenance call outs with a National footprint. Technical support is performed by Hydro staff in all regional branches. Hydros philosophy is closely tied to that of the national skill development strategy and proudly support and promote the development of our workers in the sector through education and training. Hydro Doors is recognised as an accredited provider by Merseta for the development of skills in our industry. Hydro Doors supports increasing the skills profile and adaptability of workers to improve the work environment and promote the development of workers in the sector through education and training. Furthermore, training programmes are offered to the disadvantaged community, to aid in the high levels of unemployment in South Africa and the development of personal skills.
