The HolmJordaan Group has a history of being at the forefront of environmental thinking in South Africa, thanks to its founding members. Dietrich (Dieter) Holm, who had founded the firm together with his brother Albrecht, undertook several study and research tours to Europe, Scandinavia, Israel and the U.K. after he had completed his studies at the University of Pretoria in 1960. He worked with Brian Sandrock as project architect on radiochemistry, water purification and reactor buildings. The brothers founded the architectural practice styled Holm and Holm Architects in 1962, winning numerous competitions and awards. Since its founding, the practice has been involved in a number of high profile projects in sustainable architecture, urban design, resources planning and restoration. Gerrit Jordaan joined the firm in 1981 and became a partner in 1983. He was instrumental in building the firm into an interdisciplinary environmental consultancy, specializing in sustainable architecture, urban design, resources planning and restoration. The firm accordingly developed from a pure architectural firm to a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy. Deon van Aswegen became a partner of Holm Jordaan Holm Architects during 1990 after having worked as project manager for the then Department of Home Affairs and Housing on the historic West Façade of Church Square Pretoria. Holm Jordaan was the restoration architects. Under the mentorship of Albrecht Holm, Deon van Aswegen acquired the skills and know-how of restoration and was involved in major restoration projects for a period of 10 years. Ultimately, the professiona`s sense of value and integrity is the client`s best guarantee to obtain value for money. Reinier Visser joined the Holm Jordaan Group as the Cape Town director in 2000. Since then, he has been involved with numerous architectural and urban design projects for the City of Cape Town and various private clients. Husband-and-wife team, Morné and Marguerite Pienaar joined the firm in 2007 and became directors in 2011. Projects range from small community facilities to large institutional projects. Apart from providing pro-deo projects to communities, Holm Jordaan Group has undergone managed change to ensure an all-inclusive consultancy firm, which will be committed to capacity building and Black Economic Empowerment. 25% of its equity is owned by previously disadvantaged individuals.
